First Birthday

Smash & Splash Session

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR LITTLE ONE!!

If you are here then you are already considering booking a First Birthday Smash & Splash session with Jeannie Tribe Photography.  These sessions are like no other so I am sure you have a bunch of questions.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING TO YOUR SESSION:

This list varies from session to session, but the one thing every client must bring to their smash & splash session is an almost one year old. You don’t have to bring a happy almost one-year old. You don’t have to bring a cooperative almost one year old. You don’t have to bring an outgoing almost one year old. Just bring the almost one year old that you have.

*You should also bring a cake smash outfit that you don’t mind getting messy. Many people find adorable smash outfits on Etsy. Most clients choose not to use the outfit that they purchased for the child’s party because the outfit will hopefully get very messy.

*Bring a “regular” outfit to wear (or you are welcome to use my outfits as well) for a few traditional “clean” shots because the smash and splash part never lasts a full hour. Some parents choose to bring a dressy outfit (a fancy dress or a bow-tie and suspenders set) and some people opt for a second outfit that coordinates with the party theme (a tutu or fun t-shirt).

*Please bring teats (puffs, cheerios) to hide in the back of the cake in case they are hesitant to touch it. Please make sure your baby have something to drink as the sweet can get overwhelming.

WHAT WILL I PROVIDE FOR YOUR SESSION?

Once your First Birthday Smash & Splash session is scheduled we will begin to coordinate a color scheme/theme for the cake smash.

Many, but not all, clients choose to use the same color scheme/theme as the one they are already planning for the kiddo’s birthday party.

*I provide all the props and each session is fully customized.

Want boho? I create it. Want camping? Yep I create that too. Maybe you are not into a cake smash and want to opt for a spaghetti smash or pancake smash. I welcome ALL the ideas!

*I provide the cake (as long as there are NO allergies and a cake waiver is signed) The cake provided is a fairly plain cake. If you want a custom cake you MUST send me photo and have it approved. Beautiful custom cakes do not make the best smash cakes.

*I will also provide a towel, a washcloth for tubby time as well as a bag for you to take your messy smash clothes home.

WHAT IF MY BABY DOESN'T LIKE THE CAKE SMASH?

I make no promises as to how a babe is going to do with the session. These are emotional little creatures who sometimes get overwhelmed. They might smile, they might cry, they might throw cake and they might simply not even touch it, but with YEARS of daycare experience I have LOTS of tricks! There are a few things we can do to minimize the amount of "new" with the session. PLEASE make sure the baby has tried cake. Babies who have never tried cake RARELY smash simply because of the sensory overload. I will ask you to stay near your baby until they are comfortable with me. I like to give them a chance to warm up to me before you "leave" them in the set. Many of the cake smash images you see on the internet are "staged." So even if baby isn't having it, we can "fake" a messy cake ;)
